010226 Tell Congress: Restore Funding For Planned Parenthood

A federal appeals court has allowed the Trump administration to enforce provisions cutting Medicaid funding to Planned Parenthood health centers in 22 states and Washington, D.C.

This provision, included in the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, bars Medicaid funding for organizations providing family planning and reproductive health services if they perform abortions and received over $800,000 in Medicaid funds during fiscal year 2023.

The impact is already devastating. At least 20 health centers have closed since September when the law took effect. Lawyers for Planned Parenthood have stated that stripping Medicaid funding would force closure of a portion of its roughly 600 facilities and deprive more than 1 million people of care.

While Medicaid doesn't typically fund abortion services, Planned Parenthood clinics provide other essential services including screening for certain cancers and sexually transmitted infections, and offering contraception. A federal judge previously warned that the law would "increase the percentage of patients unable to receive birth control and preventive screenings, thereby prompting an increase in states' healthcare costs."

This isn't just about ideology—it's about access to healthcare. For over a million patients, many of them low-income Americans who rely on Medicaid, this law means losing their healthcare provider.

Congress has the power to reverse this harmful provision and restore funding for essential preventive healthcare services that millions of Americans depend on.
