011326 Tell Congress: Investigate ICE's Use of Deadly Force
On January 7, 2026, ICE agents shot and killed Renee Nicole Good, a 37-year-old mother of three, barely a mile from where George Floyd was murdered. She was a poet, writer, and devoted Christian who had no criminal record and had just dropped her child at school.
When ICE agents found Good's car partly blocking the street, they immediately began shouting expletive-laden commands. One rushed her vehicle and tried to open her door. When she attempted to drive away, an agent standing to the side—not in her path—opened fire and killed her.
The killing of Renee Good was the ninth ICE shooting since September. The Supreme Court ruled in Tennessee v. Garner that police cannot use deadly force simply to stop someone from fleeing. Good posed no threat that justified lethal force.
ICE's own 2023 policy requires agents to use de-escalation techniques and show respect for human life. These guidelines were clearly ignored.
Instead of accountability, the administration has smeared the victim. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem falsely called Good a "domestic terrorist" without evidence. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries called Noem a "stone cold liar." Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey called the administration's narrative "bullshit."
Congress can investigate Good's killing and the nine other ICE shootings since September. They can require ICE to follow its own de-escalation policies and ensure federal agents are held to constitutional standards.
