013026 Tell Congress: Vote NO on any military authorization on Iran

This week, President Trump announced that a U.S. naval armada is advancing toward Iran and stands "prepared to rapidly fulfil its missions with speed and violence if necessary."

Congress has not authorized military action against Iran. Yet the administration is threatening imminent strikes that could trigger a catastrophic regional war. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has confirmed the administration maintains a "preemptive defensive option" to strike Iran. Approximately 30,000 U.S. military personnel are already positioned within range of Iranian retaliation.

We have seen this before. The wars in Iraq and Afghanistan cost $7 trillion, claimed over 7,000 American lives, killed millions of civilians, and destabilized entire regions for decades. Every regime change operation failed. Congress must stop another war now.

Here’s what’s at stake:

  • American lives - Iran has vowed "immediate, comprehensive and unprecedented" retaliation against U.S. forces, Israel, and American allies across the region.

  • Regional stability - A U.S.-Iran war would dwarf the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan, drawing in multiple nations and threatening global security.

  • Constitutional authority - Only Congress has the power to authorize war. Presidential threats of unilateral military action violate Article I, Section 8 of the Constitution.

  • Fiscal responsibility - The Iraq and Afghanistan wars cost $7 trillion. A war with Iran would impose even greater costs on American taxpayers.

Trump's justifications for military action continue to shift. Initially, he cited Iranian protest suppression, then backtracked. Now he demands Iran abandon its nuclear program, surrender enriched uranium stockpiles, dismantle its missile capabilities, and accept the removal of its Supreme Leader—conditions designed to provoke rejection rather than enable negotiation.

Congress must publicly commit to voting NO on any Iran AUMF. Congress must pass binding legislation prohibiting unauthorized military action against Iran. Congress must refuse to appropriate funds for offensive operations. And if the administration acts unilaterally, Congress must invoke the War Powers Resolution to force immediate withdrawal.

In solidarity,
