022526 Tell Congress: Investigate Trump's Bridgegate Scandal
Trump just blocked a desperately needed new bridge — after receiving a massive campaign check.
Less than one month after billionaire Matthew Moroun donated $1 million to MAGA Inc., President Trump reversed his own first-term support for the Gordie Howe International Bridge — a new crossing that would directly compete with the Moroun family's Ambassador Bridge between Detroit and Windsor, Ontario.
The White House denies any connection. But the pattern is hard to ignore: a donor with a direct financial stake in a policy outcome gives $1 million to Trump's super PAC, and weeks later Trump acts in that donor's interest. This is the definition of pay-to-play corruption.
American infrastructure policy should not be for sale. Tell Congress to investigate.
Here’s a timeline of the events
Jan. 16, 2026: Moroun gives $1 million to MAGA Inc.
Feb. 9, 2026, midday: Moroun meets Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick.
Feb. 9, 2026, evening: Trump abandons his own position and says what Moroun wanted to hear.
Spokespersons for MAGA Inc. and the White House insisted that the president’s position was unrelated to the super PAC contribution. But the facts tell a different story.
MAGA Inc. raised $177 million in the first half of 2025 alone. Multiple donors have since received pardons, favorable rulings, or policy actions benefiting their bottom line. The Moroun bridge reversal is the most visible example yet.
