08.02.25 Stop Private Detention Pay-to-Play Corruption

Trump's "One Big, Beautiful Bill" just handed $45 billion in taxpayer money to private immigration detention companies—the same corporations that donated nearly $2.8 million to his campaign and inaugural fund.

Here's how the scheme works:

  • CoreCivic and GEO Group donate millions to Trump's election efforts

  • Trump allocates $45 billion for mass immigration detention

  • These same companies get no-bid contracts worth billions

  • Their stock prices surge 56% and 73% respectively

  • Executives tell shareholders they're "built for this unique moment"

This pay-to-play corruption puts profits over people, but Congress shouldn’t play along.

CoreCivic and GEO Group already control 90% of immigration detention in America. Now they're using taxpayer dollars to expand their empire of human caging—targeting immigrants who aren't even criminals.

The numbers don't lie:

  • $2.8 million in political donations from detention companies

  • $45 billion in taxpayer funding allocated to expand detention

  • 14 idle facilities ready to reopen for massive profits

  • Billions in projected revenue exceeding their 2024 totals

While these corporations cash in, real people suffer in overcrowded, understaffed facilities with documented histories of abuse and neglect.

We cannot allow taxpayer money to fund corporate profiteering at the expense of human dignity.

Federal law already prohibits contractors from making "pay-to-play" contributions, but loopholes allow donations to inaugural funds and through subsidiaries. Congress must take action to investigate and stop private detention companies from buying contracts through political contributions.

Our tax dollars should serve the public good—not line the pockets of corporations that profit from human suffering.
