08.07.25 Tell Congress: Stop Trump's SAVE Plan Elimination
Trump's Department of Education is driving families deeper into debt.
In the wake of the COVID pandemic, President Biden offered relief through the SAVE Plan (Saving on A Valuable Education). Eight million borrowers signed up.
But Trump's Department of Education just ended the SAVE Plan (Saving on A Valuable Education) forbearance and restarted interest accrual on August 1st, forcing millions of borrowers into financial hardship with limited alternatives.
How borrowers are being harmed:
Interest resumed accruing August 1st for SAVE borrowers after months of protection
The new Repayment Assistance Plan (RAP) forces $10 minimum payments even for those earning less than $10,000 per year
Most current repayment plans eliminated, leaving only two options for new borrowers
Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) credit paused, blocking debt relief for teachers, nurses, and government workers
All borrowers automatically moved to less favorable RAP plan by 2028
