100725 Tell Congress: Protect NASA Science Funding

The Trump administration has proposed a devastating 47% cut to NASA's science budget—the largest in the agency's history.

A strong NASA means scientific breakthroughs, technological innovation, and maintaining our position as the world leader in space exploration.

NASA generated $75.6 billion in economic output in fiscal year 2023 while supporting hundreds of thousands of jobs across the country. NASA technologies have led to life-saving medical innovations including ear thermometers, automatic insulin pumps, implantable heart defibrillators, and improvements in digital mammography.

Trump’s cuts would terminate missions already underway and halt critical research that's already been partially paid for.

What that means for America:

  • Mars sample return mission—cancelled

  • Climate and Earth observation programs—eliminated

  • Ongoing space missions—terminated mid-project

  • Billions of taxpayer dollars already invested—wasted

  • America's leadership in space exploration—handed to China and other nations

  • Thousands of scientists and engineers—out of work

  • Untold missed opportunities in medicine, technology, disaster prevention, and more.

Bill Nye and The Planetary Society are calling this an "extinction-level event" for NASA science. More than 300 scientists have joined the fight to stop these cuts.

America deserves a great space program.
