Trump has deployed 500 national guard troops to Chicago—against the wishes of state and local leaders. This is his fourth deployment in four months.

The 150-year-old Posse Comitatus Act limits military enforcement of domestic laws. Trump is violating this protection and threatening to invoke the Insurrection Act to send troops into American cities.

What's at stake:

Illinois Governor JB Pritzker: "I can't believe I have to say 'troop movements' in an American city, but that is what we're talking about here."

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson called it "authoritarianism" and "breaking the constitution."

Courts in Illinois and Oregon are fighting to stop these deployments.
