111725 Tell Congress: Stop Big Pharma's Control of the FDA

The Trump administration promised to end the FDA's "cozy" relationship with pharmaceutical companies.

Instead, they installed a pharmaceutical industry executive in a key FDA position and increased industry payments to the agency. And new investigations reveal expanded industry ties to drug-approval advisory committees and multiple drugs approved this year based on questionable evidence.

We deserve better.

For decades, the FDA's scientific standards have been eroding. FDA Commissioner Martin Makary vowed to end the problematic relationship with Big Pharma.

We got the opposite.

Congress has the power to fix this crisis.

They can eliminate pharmaceutical industry funding of the FDA's drug-approval process, close the revolving door with mandatory cooling-off periods, ban industry executives from holding positions within regulatory agencies, restore rigorous scientific standards for drug approvals, and require full transparency of all financial ties between FDA officials and pharmaceutical companies.

The American people were promised an end to corruption. We deserve a drug regulator that prioritizes safety and effectiveness over pharmaceutical company profits.
