121225 Tell Congress: Address the Affordability Crisis Now
President Trump recently called "affordability" a "Democrat scam"—but a new Politico poll tells a different story.
46% of Americans say the cost of living is the worst they can ever remember—including 37% of people who voted for Trump in 2024. Even among his MAGA supporters, 21% say tariffs are damaging the economy in both the short and long term.
The reality is clear: 45% of Americans say groceries are their most challenging expense, 38% cite housing costs, and 27% have skipped medical checkups due to expense. Nearly half struggle to afford basic utilities and transportation.
And Americans know who's responsible. 46% now say this is Trump's economy and his administration is accountable for the affordability problems they face. One in five Trump voters say he has had a chance to improve the economy but hasn't taken action.
The administration asks for patience with tariff policies, but families need relief now—not later.
Congress must acknowledge this crisis and develop real solutions for rising costs in groceries, housing, and health care. The American people deserve leadership that addresses their struggles, not politicians who dismiss those struggles as a "scam."
