In a sweeping attack on democracy, the Trump-aligned H.R. 22 bill would gut voting rights and criminalize dissent. They’re calling it the “Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act,” but it’s really a blueprint for silencing millions.

Here’s what’s happening:

• Proof-of-citizenship barriers: The bill would require people to show physical proof of citizenship—like a passport or birth certificate—just to register to vote. Millions of eligible Americans could be shut out.

• End of online and mail-in registration: By requiring in-person document submission, the bill would effectively end the most accessible forms of registration.

• Disenfranchisement by design: This bill would disproportionately affect young people, low-income communities, and voters of color—groups already facing barriers at the ballot box.
